Keep your Cool-er

I mention from time to time how important it is to prepare your meals ahead of time. A friend once told me if you fail to plan, you are only planning to fail. So wise Paul, so wise! Packing a cooler to tote around with you through-out the day is going to be your biggest asset when it comes to creating a healthy routine and managing your healthy lifestyle. Soooo what the heck are you supposed to put in that thing anyway? Here is a sample of items in my daily cooler....

Pre chopped veggies: red & green peppers, mini carrots, cucumber, snap peas, broccoli

Dips: hummus, avocado, olive oil & balsamic vinegar

Almonds

Fresh Spinach leaves

Diced chicken

Can of tuna...those little flavoured ones are great, I love the lemon dill!

Rice Cakes- I always love the butter popcorn flavour or to satisfy my sweet tooth the caramel choc.chip!!

Whole grain wraps

Mixed Fruits: berries, apples, pre cut grapefruit, banana

Peeled, hard boiled eggs

Low fat or Greek yogurt

Water, water, water!!

With this mix of yummy-ness you can create a number of different meals. Chicken salad with mixed veggies, rice cakes with hummus and sliced egg, tuna wrap with avocado and apples....

Set aside one day a week when you can make a “cooler menu” for each day. Then pre chop, dice or cook all your ingredients. It may seem like a lot of work for one day, but you will find you save so much time during the week trying to put together last minute lunches or making short notice runs to the grocery store. Another bonus to the cooler plan is you will save a bunch of money that you would normally spend eating out.....now that I can deal with!
